It's been almost three years since I've given a news update, so here goes!
I have been very busy the past few years! With most of my time spent working full time as the staff draper at Rutgers University, I also freelance when time permits. I have been working with the Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School, in Bridgewater, NJ, as their resident costume designer for their theater department. It the past 5 years, I have designed the costumes for 7 shows, (musicals and straight plays) for their drama department, with director Joe Mancuso. It's been a very fruitful and fulfilling collaboration! For the past 3 years I have taught the Draping I class at Mason Gross to the costume design and technology BFA students. Teaching is a passion of mine, so I am glad to teach when there is room in the schedule. I've also taught other classes here and there. To name a few: - "Costume II" class at Brooklyn College, to their BFA/MFA costume design students. - "Costume Construction" class here at Rutgers, taken by BFA I students in their first semester. - "Theater Practice," an intro to costumes and sewing class, taught to BA/BFA students at Rutgers. I hope to continue to teach in the future! Another frequent freelance opportunity has been taking on commissioned draped/tailored work for summer stock theaters and opera companies! I've had the pleasure to work with astounded costume designers such as Andrea Lauer, Court Watson, Erik Teague, and Lynly Saunders, to name a few, at such esteemed companies as Glimmerglass Opera, Red Bull Theater, ZACH Theatre, and The Wolf Trap Opera!  Lauren is happy to announce that she has officially become registered with the Theatrical Wardrobe Union, IATSE Local 764, and is now working towards becoming a union member! Lauren is excited for this new career opportunity, and looks forward to working in TV/Film, and wardrobe in theater this summer, and during her times off from Rutgers!
I am happy to announce I will be designing costumes for the Plainfield Academy for the Arts and Advanced Studies' production of THE TALENTED TENTH, directed by Mason Gross School of the Arts alumni Othell J. Miller. This show goes up at the end of May. Fast approaching!
I am also in talks with another costume designer about other draping and construction freelance work for mid-June. Hoping to keep very busy this summer, while all my school sessions come to a close by the end of May! More to come soon!

I am happy to announce that I am SUPER busy this Spring semester! I am still a staff draper at Rutgers University, having just opened a period production of "School for Scandal". I have also taken on a few more side gigs this semester.
I started teaching a "Costume Construction for the Stage and Screen III" class at Brooklyn College. It is a great challenge, and all of my students are wonderful! I will post their projects as the semester progresses. I am also currently the resident "Costumiere" at the Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School in Bridgewater, NJ. This is a Performing Arts High School that has a very intensive theater program, and so far we have done a production of Les Mis, and are currently working on a production of Our Town. I will post photos of both soon! I love being busy; this semester is off to a great start! I am so happy to have recently joined the team at the Somerset County Vocational and Technical Performing Arts High School in Bridgewater, NJ, as their Costumiere! It is so wonderful working with so many young artists every day; between working with BFA designers and technicians at Rutgers University, and working with so many young, fresh actors and artists at SCVTS, I have my hands full!
We recently completed an amazing production of LES MIS at SCVTS! Coming very soon, we are doing a production of OUR TOWN! Many photos will be coming soon; stay tuned! I am pleased to announce I will be building a beautiful Edwardian gown, and woman's jacket for the Albert Herring Opera at the Bronx Opera. Designer Peter Fogel provided beautifully illustrated renderings of his designs, and production photos will be coming soon! Below are the renderings; check it out! Last year, I had the honor to work as a draper for the Rockettes' new finale number, "SNOW." I've added some production photos, and process shots of making the dresses come to life, but the Rockettes Official Facebook page just released a beautiful video of the making of the finale number. I am thrilled to announce that I have recently begun a new position at Rutgers University! I was hired back at my Alma Mater, to work in the costume shop as a draper! I also accepted and began a CoAdjunct position for a "Culture and Clothing" class. I am so excited for this next chapter in my career to begin, and I am so happy to be back at Rutgers!

Since Lauren finished up working at Eric Winterling, Inc. in December 2013, she has been freelancing and working on numerous things in both New York and New Jersey. Lauren finished up 2013 in New York, rebuilding costumes for Sleep No More. This was a great flat-patterning experience for Lauren. She had a great opportunity to look at all the existing clothes, and take patterns off of them for new cast members. Due to a nondisclosure agreement, no photos are available :) Lauren was then hired by Rutgers University for the month of January 2014 as a draper/pattern maker for their winter production of You Can't Take It With You, with acclaimed New York designer David Murin. This was a great experience for Lauren; going back to her alma mater as a hired professional was wonderful! In February 2014 Lauren was commissioned by the 10th Anniversary of Sesame Street Themed Entertainment to build character costumes for the Beaches Resorts Mardi Gras parade and shows! She worked on several Cookie Monster and Zoe costumes, and was covered in glitter and faux fur for a month! Lauren has kept busy since graduating in May of 2013! She's excited for what the future holds! |
